Healthy Mouths, Healthy Children

CCALA is a partner of the UCLA 21st Century Dental Home Project.  Funded by First 5 LA, this project aims to improve access to dental care for children 0-5.

The role of CCALA agencies is to improve parents’ and caregivers’ knowledge of children’s oral health needs and available community resources through outreach and training of child care providers in targeted communities.

Five R&R agencies (Child Care Resource Center, Crystal Stairs, Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, Options, and Pathways) offer training and services available to child care providers and parents in these communities selected by UCLA.  Targeted communities are in the vicinity of participating dental clinics.

These training workshops focus attention on healthy practices for children, families and child care sites.  With the goal of decreasing tooth decay, these workshops will give helpful information on tooth brushing, healthy eating, visiting the dentist, and making dental health a fun part of every child’s day.
